This customer from Leverett, MA wanted to reverse the damage in his kitchen floor. It was sagging down near the center which alerted the concern. After calling our appointment center for a free estimate, our inspector visited the home to diagnose the issue and provide a solution.
The inspector measured the dimensions of the floor from the basement and spotted the wooden floor beam rotting. When basement or crawl spaces are exposed to high humidity like this customer, the wood begins to rot and grow mold which lessens the strength it needs to fully support the floor. The inspector suggested that our production team installs SmartJacks below this floor to raise it back up and stabilize it. Additionally, he proposed to also encapsulate the crawl space with CleanSpace vapor barrier to lower the humidity. After agreeing to the job, our production team went right to work.
The team first cleaned out any old debris that remained in the crawl space, then they located the weakened floor support and installed SmartJacks below it. Our steel SmartJacks are made of galvanized steel to avoid corrosion and can be adjusted to any height if future settling occurs. Then, the team rolled out CleanSpace and lined it up on the floor to keep the moisture out. Once our SmartJacks and CleanSpace were installed, this customer was extremely happy about the improved structural integrity of his floor!
