Job Stories From Jamaica Plain, MA
Musty Odor in Old Jamaica Plain, MA Basement
Like many homes in the Boston area, this Jamaica Plain home had a stone foundation that made for a terrible living space. The house was built in the late 19th century and had a history of flooding whenever it rained. It always felt damp and the store bought dehumidifiers were just not helping at all. They needed to be emptied every day, several times a day in the summer time. Ediz had enough.
Our company was contacted in August 2016 and our system design speciailst went out and already knew exactly what to do. We've been doing business in this area for ten years now and this isn't the first time we've seen an old home with a moisture problem. The customer did declined fully waterproofing the basement but wanted to take care of the moisture. We reccommended a SaniDry. This has worked wonders on the basement and dramtically improved the air quality in the whole home, a perk Ediz didn't realize he was even getting. Needless to say, he was happy he called DryZone!

We have an unfinished basement that tends to take on water when it rains, both from the walls (through minor hairline cracks) as well as from where the wall meets the floor. We have two sump pumps installed and are told that we have a high water table. We have explored installing a French drain system but did not move forward, and one of my colleagues suggested looking into a Waterguard system.
I will be in Boston the last week of April and would love to have someone come out to meet me and do a walk through of the basement to determine our options.

1890 Stone foundation wall. The grout/mortar needs to be removed and replaced, and the wall sealed. The unfinished basement makes walls completely accessible. We had minor water infiltration with the summer storms.

We have been living in our home for just under two years. We had no issues with water in the basement the first year, but within the last two months we have had water in our basement during big storms (e.g., Hurricane Ida). There is an existing sump pump, as well as a de-humidifier, in the basement. We would like to renovate the basement to make it a finished living space, but first he want to ensure that we will not have water leaking in going forward.

Heavy rains and poor drainage from downspout saturated the ground around the house, with the result that water seeped through the foundation wall into the previously dry crawl space.
The rainwater from downspout has been re-routed away from the house, but crawl space remains moist and smells of mold.
The crawl space has no air vents to the outside, just a single hatch that opens into a kitchen closet.

Fieldstone basement walls were coated with foam insulation several years ago, which has made a huge difference, but during heavy rains I still get seepage from groundwater at the base of the walls on two sides of the house; recently able to identify two spots where it's coming in. I get small pools at low spots near chimneys.

Our basement has gotten steadily damper over the last year. It's gotten to the point where stuff stored down there gets moldy and the floor is damp in half the space. We'd really like the basement to be a dry, reliable space.

We have an existing french drain system with two sump wells in a house that we bought last year. We have had several flooding events associated with iron ochre buildup in a narrow caliber drain pipe in the floor of the back wall of the basement (accepts flow from a bulkhead drain, which is being fed by a crack in the bulkhead stairs).
The system currently requires mechanical snaking and hot water flushes every 2-4 weeks. We need a solution that will alleviate the constant maintenance and allow us to restore the finished basement.

Basement floor is damp in spots. Paint peels off; also dry rot. Some affected areas also on the walls. This is an 1870 house. The floors are rough and the walls are local stones. There don't appear to be cracks in either the floor or walls. there is a drainage sump pump

We have 2 leaks in the basement that were discovered during the intense rain storm 1-2 weeks ago. One is coming from the wall in the basement, and one is coming from a hole in the concrete in the center of the basement floor. I want to get someone to come take a look so that I can get a proper repair estimate and make sure we didn't miss any problems.

Hello,
I am looking to finish my basement and waterproofing is a ver important part to me. I am currently in the information gathering stage (specifically prices) and was wondering if you could give me a rough estimate of how much it would cost to waterproof my basement. If it helps, I live in Boston, Ma and our basement was recently documented to be approximately 721 sq ft of living space.
Thank you in advance
