Foundation Focus: Bouncy Floor Fix

Bouncy or creaking floors can feel more like an annoyance than a structural problem, but it is! Those symptoms are typically due to weakened floor joists or excessive framing spans in the floor above the basement or crawl space. Moisture exposure causing rot, improper installation or too much weight added to the floor above are also reasons that the joists and existing supports could be weak or sinking. Luckily, fixing this issue is easy with the right tools and right company doing the job!

Our team uses the SmartJack system to support the existing columns and redistribute the weight of the home. The columns are made from galvanized steel, secured to an existing or supplemental beam. The top brackets are adjustable so that they can be tightened over time, potentially bringing the floor above back up to its original height if there is sagging or sloping.
