South Yarmouth Crawlspace Transformation
Challenge
The homeowners at this property contacted DryZone looking for help with their crawlspace. The crawlspace had a dirt floor with no existing vapor or moisture barrier, and they were concerned about the support system beneath their home. They knew additional supports and strength needed to somehow be added, but weren't sure where to start. Luckily for them, DryZone has exactly the expertise needed to assist with this issue, and our inspector Steve D. holds a wealth of knowledge in this area. Having been with DryZone Basement Systems since its inception, there aren't many issues or situations Steve hasn't seen or that he doesn't have the knowledge on how DryZone can best equip a client's basement or crawlspace to tackle their concerns. In evaluating this property, it was clear that the structure was definitely in need of added support, and the root cause of these concerns was moisture and dampness wearing down on their existing supports over time; this is not an uncommon issue for homeowners in South Yarmouth, being in a coastal part of Massachusetts right on Cape Cod.
Solution
To make this crawlspace, and by extension this entire home, safe once again for our clients - DryZone would install several SmartJack supports throughout the entirety of the crawlspace area. Our SmartJack support system involves the installation of new footings for these supports so they won't budge out of place, and the SmartJacks can be adjusted if the home continues to settle over time or if there are environmental changes beyond DryZone's and the homeowner's controls. This will ensure that the structural integrity of the home is not at compromise due to shifting, settling, sinking, etc. A new steel beam was installed as well, that sits atop these SmartJacks to ensure there is solid support to the floor above. Our drainage matting is installed next, creating a barrier between the ground and the bottom side of our CleanSpace. The CleanSpace vapor barrier encapsulation system is designed and installed to keep moisture, dampness, and the harmful spores that cause mildew and mold to grow out of the crawlspace for good. Lastly, our SaniDry Sedona and condensate pump were installed to help maintain a relative humidity within the crawlspace that creates an environment where mold and mildew physically cannot grow. This home is well protected with DryZone, and we are grateful for the opportunity to create a safe environment for them!
