Crawl Space Waterproofing in Newport, RI
Challenge
This homeowner in Newport, RI reached out to us because their crawl space was in need of repair. The dirt floor and concrete walls of the space were taking on water, making a very unhealthy environment filled with musty smells and constant moisture. The homeowner knew that the poor conditions of the crawl space would eventually take a toll on the rest of their home, so they gave us a call looking for encapsulation options. When our inspector, Benny, went to take a look at the space, he was happy to confirm that crawl space encapsulation would be the best solution, since it's a great way to fix a crawl space's environment and it happens to be one of our specialties! This crawl space in particular was a little over 3 feet in height and had a lot of old fiberglass insulation floating around. Although this would feel cramped for most, our crew is full of experts that make crawl space repair jobs look easy, no matter the conditions!
Solution
Our foreman, Kervin, and his crew started by carefully removing all of the old fiber glass insulation from the space. Once that was out of the way, they were able to begin the encapsulation process by first laying down drainage matting over the dirt floor. Drainage matting allows any water to flow freely under and out of the space instead of getting stuck and pooling inside of it. The crew also installed our SmartSump, which is our crawl space drainage system that is designed to keep the crawl space dry and clean. Next, the crew fully encapsulated the crawl space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier, completely sealing off the space from being affected by outside factors. Lastly, they set up our SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to keep humidity in the space low. The homeowner can now rest easy knowing that their crawl space is well protected and their home is healthier for it!
