Crawl Space Repair in Warwick, RI
Challenge
This homeowner in Warwick, RI called us because they were experiencing a variety of issues with their crawl space. Their waterfront home was built in 1987 with a dirt floor crawl space. A recent inspection revealed that mold remediation was needed and the existing Lally columns were rusting. Water was finding its way into the crawl space which was causing a very moist environment, perfect for mold spores to grow. There were three Lally columns in the crawl space that were installed to support the rest of the home when it was built, but over time they began to rust and become weak, causing the floors of the home to slope. Michael, one of our inspectors, went out to take a look and came up with a solution that would fix each problem the crawl space had.
Solution
Foreman Kervin and his crew arrived on installation day ready to encapsulate the crawl space and restore the structural integrity of the home. They started by laying the drainage matting over the dirt floor to make the water trying to enter the space flow under instead of getting stuck inside of it. They insulated the walls with our SilverGlo insulation to keep the temperature of the crawl space regulated. Then they fully encapsulated the space with our CleanSpace vapor barrier. The crew also installed our CleanSpace SmartDrain to keep water out of the crawl space and our SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier to keep humidity low. Over the vent that leads outside, the crew put our Everlast Door to completely seal off the space from being negatively impacted by the outdoor weather. To fix the home's structural issues, the crew installed our SmartJacks, which are strong beams made of galvanized steel. Galvanized steel is steel covered in a coat of zinc to prevent rusting, so these beams will stand the test of time. The SmartJacks can also be adjusted to reverse the sloping of the floors that has already occurred. Lastly, they sprayed our Mold-X2 spray to clean the mold that has grown in the crawl space. The homeowner feels much better about the environment of their crawl space now and can rest easy knowing the structural integrity is restored.
