Sealing a Crawl Space in Upton, MA
Challenge
When there was an awful smell coming from the crawl space of this Hanson, MA home, the owner called urgently looking for help! It had been a while since anyone checked it, it was not a pleasant place to go crawling around in. Our inspector could tell the source of the smell was the moisture in the space, the earth was damp and you could tell it had been trapped in there for a while. That trapped moisture has the potential to cause mold and rot if not addressed, so we were so happy to be called out to help!
Solution
The team used our SilverGlo to insulate the crawl space, making the area temperature controlled, so warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Having less drastic temperature changes will help reduce moisture. They then encapsulated the crawl with CleanSpace vapor barrier to keep the moist dirt separate from the rest of the space. Most people think you should vent the crawl space but by allowing outside air in, you are also allowing water vapors in that can make the space damp, sealing the entrance to the crawl with our EverLast Panel keeps that outside air where it belongs, outside!
