Boylston, MA Crawl Space Improvement
Challenge
The crawl space of this Boylston, MA home was damp, dark and had fiberglass insulation falling all over the place, creating a breading ground for mold and other pests. With all the organic materials absorbing the dampness from the earth, they began to rot and added to the musty smells coming from the space and the owners had gotten a recommendation to consider a vapor barrier to stop that moisture from damaging even more components of the crawl. The owners called the right company and we were able to get an inspector out to start the improvement process!
Solution
After discussing a plan and getting an install date on the calendar, the day came and our crew got to work! The team removed that insulation and other debris so that there was less "food" for mold and rot. Once the space was cleared out, they lined it with our CleanSpace vapor barrier to seal out the moisture from the damp ground. This will significantly reduce the moisture as well as damp odors coming from the crawl. They also added SilverGlo insulation to keep the crawl temperature controlled in all months, no matter the exterior temperatures. The radiant barrier reflects heat back in to keep it warm in the winter months and the thick polystyrene foam seals out heat in the summer. Also, the EverLast door will also seal outside air, reducing humidity and outdoor airflow. These solutions all work to improve the overall health of the crawl space and the home!
