Bowing Block Wall on Cape Cod
Challenge
The block foundation of this East Falmouth, MA home has a stairstep crack that was bowing due to pressure on the other side of the foundation. This pressure can be due to water flowing on the other side, adding extra weight or expanding and contrasting during the changes in season. The owners of the Cape Cod home spotted it and made move quickly to get a professional opinion on the cracking and solution to prevent it from getting worse!
Solution
After reviewing with the homeowner our solution, they agreed to the work and our crew was able to later install our PowerBrace system! The steel beam was measured to fit their basement and secured to the first-floor framing and basement floor with brackets. These beams work to permanently stabilize the wall and can even be tightened over time to help the wall straighten! PowerBraces are a non-invasive solution, making it an easy choice for this homeowner!
